Increase in opium production in Afghanistan: United Nations

Opium production and the value of the illegal harvesting in Afghanistan last year has increased, the United Nations in a report published Thursday said.
According to the United Nations Office on drugs and crimewas income the farmer of harvest of opium Afghanistan 2011 year 1.4 billion (1.09 billion euros), nine per cent of GDP.

Afghanistan is growing to about 90% of the world's opium. The United Nations stated that cultivation of the poppy cultivation has covered more than 131,000 hectares in 2011, by seven percent from the previous year.
Cultivation of the opium any increase of 61%, from 3 600 tonnes in 2010 to 5 800 tonnes in 2011.
The value of the production of opium increased plant diseases of 133% by 2010, as a large part of Afghan culture killed.
The means of high prices for the cultivation of the opium poppy remain attractive to Afghan farmers.

"A commitment growing a wide range of national and international partners is necessary, these concerns carcinogenic trend to activate", Fedetov said.
